About Le Stampe
The greatest paintings ever made belong to everyone. They are out of copyright, off in the public domain, free for any of us to live with. And yet most of them never make it onto a wall. They sit behind museum glass, or buried in an archive, or scattered across the internet as scans too small and too soft to print.
Le Stampe exists to close that gap. We take the canon — Hokusai, Vermeer, Monet, Klimt, and the quieter names beside them — and we make each work livable: a careful, print-ready download you can hang at home for the price of a sandwich.
What we actually do
We start from the best source we can find: high-resolution, museum-grade scans of the original. Then we do the slow work. We clean and restore. We correct colour against trustworthy references so the blues read as blue and the gold reads as gold. We retouch dust, scratches, and the damage of a century without ever sanding away the grain, the brushwork, or the life of the thing. The goal is never to improve the painting. The goal is to let you see it the way it was meant to be seen.
Each artwork then becomes one purchase that holds four ways to frame it:
- No border — the full painting, edge to edge, nothing cropped.
- A printed beige border — a quiet margin, like a print already matted.
- A museum caption — the work set with its title and maker, the gallery-wall look.
- A matched story print — the true history of the piece, set as a companion you can frame beside it.
Every version comes at each standard frame ratio, at 300 DPI, in sRGB — built to print sharp whether you do it at home or hand the files to a lab.
The story behind each work
We care as much about the words as the pixels. For every painting we research its real history — who made it, when, what was happening around it, why it matters — and we fact-check that story before it ever reaches you. The story print isn't decoration. It is the painting's biography, made framable, so the art on your wall carries its own memory.
What we promise
Reverence for the original, obsession with the detail. We will never crop a masterpiece to fit a trend, never over-sharpen it into something it isn't, and never publish a story we couldn't stand behind. When you buy a work, the files arrive the moment you check out, and they are yours to keep and print for your own walls. You receive a personal-use licence — the full terms live on our license page.
We are a small, independent studio, and we sell to the whole world. Nothing is shipped; everything is a download. If you have a question, a correction, or a painting you wish we carried, write to us at hello@lestampe.studio. We read every message.
